Hindu temple opens in Foxboro
Foxboro: Hindu temple opens in Foxboro Building 52 at the former Bristol Park, built as world headquarters for The Foxboro Company is now becoming Hindu temple because the Sanskar Cultural Society purchased the building in July for $4.1 million. Since then, this space in the building has been transformed into the Umiya Dham, where devotees can pray seven days a week. Maa Umiya is a Hindu goddess worship is primarily centered in the Indian state of Gujarat. Dham means place of, so Umiya Dham is a Place of Umiya Mataji.
Mr. Vijay Patel, a member of the temple’s committee, said 50 to 60 people come to the temple daily, although hundreds come during weekend or festival time. The committee is also planning to start Hindi and Gujarati learning classes for senior and youth. The next big event will be on Nov. 13, which will consist of a celebration of the festival of Diwali.
